A HEALING EVANGELIST FOR AFRICA
Bishop Dag Heward- Mills pastored the church he founded for several years until he sensed that the season for pastoring had changed and it was now time for evangelism in his ministry. He perceived that God had called him to go beyond the church,to minister to a wider audience. God gave him the idea to use a tent for his meetings, during avisit to South Africa. With child-like obedience, he got the tent and flew in a technician from South Africa to teach his team how to set it up. Healing Jesus Crusades began with the testing of the use of this tent in November 2003, in a field belonging to A.M.E. Zion Church. This was followed by the first major crusade in Tema in February 2004, on the premises of the First Baptist Church school. There were many obstacles to overcome, but Bishop Heward-Mills persisted until by God's grace the crusades became a reality. God blessed the move with many outstanding miracles and multitudes were saved.
That same year crusades were also held in Takoradi and Buduburam with thousands of people including criminals, drug addicts and prostitutes, surrendering their lives to Christ. At the Buduburam crusade, Evangelist Dag graciously gave away copies of his books and it was reported that every home had received at least one copy. Notable in that same crusade, on the 17th of June 2004, a halo of God's presence was sighted over the crusade tent.
Healing Jesus Crusades were also held in 2005 in the following towns outside the capital city, Accra: Cape Coast, Tarkwa, Ashaiman, Nyanyano, Asamankese and Saltpond. Within the city of Accra, crusades were also held at the Accra Academy school and at Darkuman. Many healings occured and one lady testified of a miraculous healing of fibroids. There was a report of almost 4000 conversions in Cape Coast, and Tarkwa had 7200 saved. Saltpond reported 8000 decisionsfor Christ and Ashiaman, 8940, all in this first year of Healing Jesus Crusade. God confirmed His word with many authentic miracles. Another feature of the crusades was the ministers' conferences heldin the mornings. These are for shepherds, pastors, church leaders and ministers of the gospel. Moved by his passion to see Christians trained and equipped for the work of the ministry, the Lord has continually used the evangelist, also a renowned teacher of the word, to impact the lives and ministries of many. The free gifts of books authored by Bishop Dag were well appreciated by the eager ministers participating in the conferences. Denominational barriers were broken as pastors from different churches interacted, with a resultant effect of love and unity.
2006 saw the Healing Jesus Crusades moving to Adisadel College, Cape Coast University, theUniversity of Science and Technology, Kumasi and some towns in the Volta region of Ghana, namely Hohoe, Jasikan, Peki and Kajebi.
In 2007, the first crusade outside Ghana was held in Lome, Togo. Bishop Dag's books in English and French were distributed to delegates at the Pastors' conference which had 5000 ministers inattendance. The same year, crusades were held in the following towns in Ghana: Kpando,Komenda, Ho, Peki, Dunkwa-On-Offin, Techiman, Nkwanta, Kintampo, Dawadawa, Wenchi and Donkorkrom. There were many wonderful miracles of healing with almost every type of biblical healing being manifested. At Wenchi, witches testified of their deliverance from witchcraft and many Moslems got healed.
Healing Jesus Crusade witnessed 516,941 decisions for Christ in 2008 as it reached out to other towns in Ghana, for example, Half Assini, Assin Fosu, Sampa, Atebubu, Busunya and Berekum.
however, the lord had more in store. . .
'In 2009, God through His grace moved Healing Jesus Crusade to another level as the clear simple message of salvation through the blood of Jesus, was continually and faithfully preached by healing Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills in Obuasi, Salaga and Asankragua. It was typical to see yearning crowds "pour" onto the giant crusade fields which have been specially cleared to accommodate the multitudes. Attendance spiralled from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands witha total attendance of nearly one million people at the Obuasi crusade. It has been the biggest Healing Jesus Crusade so far.
The crusade's large buses were sent to surrounding towns and villages, to convey people to the crusade grounds and each bus would arrive crammed with precious souls, hungry for the gospel.
The greatest miracle of all, is the salvation of a soul, and in 2009, the Lord harvested thousands of souls in a beautiful manner as Evangelist Dag delivered the word of God with power and confirming miracles. At the Salaga crusade, great joy was experienced, with gratitude to God,as two mentally challenged men were delivered and regained their sanity. Also in Salaga, the Healing Jesus Crusade celebrated the salvation of their one millionth soul to Christ!
Characteristic of the crusades were the Healing Jesus medical mission outreaches committed to spreading the love of Christ by providing free healthcare to the rural and underprivileged populations in the crusade locations. Evangelist Dag, himself a medical doctor, believes that in doing so, the door to share the gospel of Christ and to win souls for the Kingdom of God is opened. The outreach teams are made up of volunteer healthcare professionals who typically hold clinics under the crusade tents, during the day. The triage team diagnose and treat patients whilst the pharmacy team distribute medications free of charge. Since the inception of the Healing Jesus Medical Missions outreaches in 2006, clinics have been held in 27 villages and towns at an average cost of US $15,000 per clinic.
The year 2010 has taken the renowned healing evangelist to Koforidua, Tamale and Damongo so far. These towns were greatly blessed as they experienced the knowledge and power of God in a new way.
Once again the crowds were phenomenal in size, flocking to the crusade grounds in defiance of heavy downpours of rain. God blessed the crusade with a great record of saved souls and notable miracles. The Healing Jesus Crusades have so far been held with a great impact in various parts of Ghana and the Lord is enlarging Evangelist Dag's coasts to cross over into 2 foreign locations, both in the Ekiti State of Nigeria.
Jesus instructed: "Go into the entire world and preach the gospel". Healing Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills, set out in the year 2003 to reach the lost through outdoor crusades. Regardless of various seasons of challenges for example, crusades being rained off by storms, difficulties with funding of crusades, impassable road networks to some of the remote crusade locations, to mention a few, the healing Evangelist has held 67 crusades in over 41 towns and villages, and over 10 countries in Africa.
Indeed, Evangelist Dag is conscious of the privilege of his God-given, all-important assignment and relentlessly presses on in order to see the will of God done with Healing Jesus Crusade.
