What an honor it is to see another year. God has been merciful to grant me another year of life. I would like to thank all the pastors and members of Lighthouse Chapel International and First Love Church for the time dedicated to celebrating with me; for all your kind words and prayers. It is a great privilege to pastor you all. I would also like to extend my thanks to everyone who took the time to wish me a “Happy Birthday” via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the various social media platforms. May the Lord honor you all and may you continually be celebrated!
Today, I continue on the subject of wisdom from Proverbs 10. Do not receive this as just another “message” on wisdom. There are many messages that have been shared on wisdom. It makes it very easy to despise what is coming. Rather, receive the wisdom of Proverbs 10 with eagerness! Do not despise all this wisdom you are receiving and you will walk in it!
“The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death” (Proverbs 10:1-2). You will never be associated with the behavior of a foolish son in Jesus’ name! What are the treasures of wickedness? When you get money from wickedness such as bribery, forgery, stealing, fraud, scams and the like, it does not benefit you. You never know who you will attempt to rob and what that person has both physically and spiritually. One day, I was praying certain prayers and I realized that the individuals I was praying concerning would have been better off never meeting me.
“but righteousness delivereth from death” (Proverbs 10:2b). You might realize that if you stay away from fornication, doing this alone delivers you from HIV. If you learn not to drink alcohol and smoke, you are delivered from many of the diseases caused by these habits. Almost all the diseases we know are linked to alcohol and smoking: heart diseases, cancer, hepatitis, etc. Righteousness will deliver you from death. When you are a serious Christian, you cannot easily smoke. How can you stand outside of the church and smoke before coming in it? It will not work. Righteousness delivereth from death! When you are a serious Christian, you have a beloved, which is someone you enter into a serious relationship with the intention of marriage in the future. You do not enter relationships without such an intention. Neither do you go about entering in numerous relationships just for the “fun of it.” Righteousness delivereth from death! When you are a Christian, you are saved from all the sexually transmitted diseases: gonorrhea, chlamydia trachomatis, trypanosomiasis, herpes, hepatitis B, HIV, etc. Righteousness delivereth from death! You are delivered from death in Jesus’ name.
“He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame” (Proverbs 10:5). Life is made of seasons, good seasons and not so good seasons. Unfortunately, when there are good seasons, people tell themselves that it will always be good. That is not true. Seasons always change. Most people who get jobs immediately receive the delusion that it will always be so and go out to get loans, digging themselves into financial instability. There is a summer for your beauty and when that time passes, it may be more difficult to get married as a lady. That is why you have to be alert. Most people in the First Love Church are in their summer time season when it is good to get married. That is why you must listen when being spoken to, especially the women. This is because men can get married at any time and nothing will be affected. However, this is not the case for many women. Listen to the advice of those who have gone ahead of you! Do not sleep in the harvest time. Do not be caught snoring during the harvest time. “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved” (Jeremiah 8:20). When God blesses you, that is the time to build.
“The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.” (Proverbs 10:7-8). The Bible has a lot to say about the ability to receive commandments. The ability to receive commandments is like the ability to be loved. The wise in heart receive commandments. Your ability to receive the commandment which goes against what you have decided to do is what determines your ability to receive or not. When you have already decided to do something and you are told to do that same exact thing, that is not a commandment. You are becoming wise!
“He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known” (Proverbs 10:9). Verse nine is again talking about righteousness. When you walk uprightly, your ways are sure and your future is sure. So decide to be one who walks uprightly. Stealing, lying and cheating, which are unfortunately so common in the world, must be far from you. Your “yes” means a yes and your “no” means a no. Try hard to be a more truthful and upright person. It creates a sure way for you.
“He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall. The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked” (Proverbs 10:10-11). If I am a righteous man, my mouth is bringing the waters of life to you! One of the things we do not realize is that at a point in life, you will no longer be told what to do. That gets less and less as you go through life. That means that you are not exposed to the well of life anymore. It means you have no water or sustenance. Never run away from someone who seems to be correcting you. Rather, have a mindset that you will force yourself to obey what you are being told. The wells of life will never be dry in your life in Jesus name.
