THE BLESSINGS OF ABRAHAM – TITHING

It is a blessing to be back home after a wonderful season of Give Thyself Wholly Conferences in the South African cities of Soweto and Cape Town. What a blessing! Today, I would like to go back and continue sharing on the greatness of Abraham for the final week.

You are going to experience the greatness of Abraham in your life! The Bible says that we are the seed of Abraham. Therefore, as the seed of Abraham, we are blessed with the blessings of Abraham. The blessings of Abraham are so great that there are even songs that speak of his blessings being ours. What a blessing it is to be part of the seed of such a blessed individual! Abraham is so great that so many individuals claim him. At least three world religions claim Abraham as their father: Christians, Jews and Muslims. When you are great, everyone wants to claim you. Galatians 3:29 says, And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” So rest assured, as a believer, you are an heir of Abraham.

It is important for you to know the steps Abraham took to become such a great blessing. When you go to school, it is expected that you will hear many logical things. These things will have explanations. However, when you come to church, you must expect to hear things that you must believe. Like it is said, this Christian walk we are in is by faith and not by logical explanations. One of the great things about Abraham was his ability to tithe. “Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils. But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises” (Hebrews 7:4,6). Those who say tithing is under the Old Testament law must read this verse properly. Abraham lived long before the laws given by Moses. Long before the laws, the father of faith practiced something which you and I must practice. I want to teach you how to practice these things as a young person. Many things that you do as young person, you find it much easier to continue doing for the rest of your life. Even with evil, when you start at a young age, you find it difficult to stop it. Sometimes, purity is not about a lot of “dos” and “don’ts”. Sometimes, it is about abstaining from them as a young person. That is why it is better to know God early and as a young person. As you grow up, it is far easier to abstain from sin if you abstained from them as a young person. It is difficult to reintroduce new things to an older person. All sin is the same. Once your flesh learns it, you may be surprised that it is not easy to obey God’s law. This same principle works on tithing. People who do not pay tithes as young people struggle with it for the rest of their lives. If you learn it now, you will never calculate your money without excluding God’s tithe. When it comes to your life, learn things as a young person. Learn tithing from today! As a young person, you can also fall but you must fight back. Fight to abstain from sin today. Fight to practice tithing from today!

THE GREATNESS OF ABRAHAM

I have been sharing a lot about greatness because it is our year of greatness. You are going to be great in the house of the Lord. Last week, I spent some time speaking on the greatness of Abraham. Today, I would like to continue speaking on the subject of Abraham’s blessing.

“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing” (Genesis 12:2). Abraham was promised greatness so much so that God promised to make even his name great. When you look at Abraham, there are things about him that we must follow if we want to follow in the footsteps of greatness. One of these things was Abraham’s wealth. And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south. And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents. And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together” (Genesis 13:1-2, 5-6). This is one of the principles of economics, that the land will not be able to sustain the people in it. “And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar” (Genesis 13:10). Sometimes, you have a group of people moving together that have similar features: they are all prospering, all doing well and more, just like Abraham and Lot. However, Lot was not called. Abraham was. When there are groups together, you must know that even though they may look similar, they are not all similar or called. It is important for you to recognize greater callings in people and not to equalize yourselves. Even though I went to school at the same time with my assistant Bishops, they have never related with me as coequals. They have always recognized a great calling on my life. When you are with someone, do not allow it to get into your head and  say “we are all called.” That is the thought of an “orangu” (a disloyal person). This thought will make you disconnect yourself from the real blessing.

“And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly” (Genesis 13:10,13). Lot chose a land that in the natural looked good but was full of sinful people. When you are making decisions, do not make decisions just based on natural prosperity. Do not say to yourself “this looks good so I am going to do it for financial reasons.” Even in the world, never do anything solely because of money. It is not a good aim. Those who are not focused on money in business are the ones who obtain it. Money is a very destructive goal in any endeavor. If everything is about profit, it does not work well. Receive the grace to make decisions not because they look good but because they are in alignment with God’s will for your life. You are following in Abraham’s greatness.
