Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool,
which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having
five porches.
In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind,
halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
For an angel went down at a certain season into the
pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after
the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole
of whatsoever disease he had. And a certain man was
there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been
now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt
thou be made whole?
The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man,
when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but
while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
Jesus saith unto him, RISE, TAKE UP THY BED, AND
WALK. And immediately the man was made whole,
and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day
was the Sabbath.
John 5:2-9

1. Jesus visited a place where there were a lot of sick
people but He healed only one person. It is a mystery
why Jesus heals some and leaves others.
Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool,
which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having
five porches. In these lay A GREAT MULTITUDE of
impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the
moving of the water.
John 5:2-3

2. Jesus explained why He healed only one person, even
though there was a multitude of sick people. Do not
be discouraged when a few people are healed out of
a multitude. Jesus explained that He could only do
what He saw His father doing.
Jesus explained why he healed only one person when he
said “My father works and I work. I only do what I see my
father do. Jesus only ministered to people who were being
touched by the Father.
Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son
can do nothing by himself; HE CAN DO ONLY WHAT
HE SEES HIS FATHER DOING, because whatever the
Father does the Son also does.
John 5:19 (NIV)

3. An angel from the Lord was involved in the healing of
the sick people by the pool of Bethesda. Today, angels
are involved in the ministration of the power of God
and the ministry of healing. Accept the ministry of
angels and you will be healed.
For AN ANGEL went down at a certain season into the
pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after
the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of
whatsoever disease he had.
John 5:4

4. Jesus is able to heal problems that have been there for
a long time. This miracle demonstrates that Jesus is
able to heal problems that are almost forty years old.
And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity
THIRTY AND EIGHT YEARS.
John 5:5

5. Jesus asked the man, “Do you want to be made
whole?” God delivers you from your enemies and
not from your friends. That is why Jesus asked this
question.
When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a
long time in that case, he saith unto him, WILT THOU BE
MADE WHOLE?
John 5:6

6. The impotent man did not have anyone to help him.
He said, “I have no man to help me.” Jesus is the One
who will help you when no one is available to help
you. When there is no one to help you financially or
socially, Jesus will be there to help you.
The impotent man answered him, Sir, I HAVE NO MAN,
when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but
while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
John 5:7

7. Jesus ministered to him by telling him what to do.
You receive the power of God when you receive
instructions on what to do. “Rise, take up your bed
and walk” was a clear instruction from the Lord.
May you be healed when you follow the word of the
Lord as it comes to you.
Jesus saith unto him, RISE, TAKE UP THY BED, AND
WALK. And immediately the man was made whole, and
took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the
Sabbath.
John 5:8-9

8. The miracle healing of the impotent man demonstrates
the love of God, the compassion of Jesus Christ, the
greatness of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy
Spirit.
… For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he
might destroy the works of the devil.
1 John 3:8
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten
Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

9. “Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.”
Jesus told the man to do what he could not do before. As he
obeyed he became well. As you begin to do what you cannot do,
the healing power will come into your body.
The legalistic Pharisees were concerned with the technicalities
and legalities of the man carrying his bed on a Sabbath day, rather
than the powerful result of the man being healed after thirty-eight
years.
Jesus warned the man not to sin again, lest more diseases with
more complications came to him.

10. Rise out of your sins and be healed and be saved by
accepting Jesus as your Saviour and being washed by the Blood of Jesus!
